FYNU/HE HPC cluster

Having a significant local computing power allows us to improve and to perform with optimum flexibility the CMS simulations which are part of our research program. This implies also becoming a pilot laboratory in the university and a leader partner in the belgian GRID.

The phase 2 of our cluster deployment has been achieved begin of February 2003, with the installation of 12 1U PowerEdge 1650 (dual P3, 1.4GHz, 512kb cache, 20GB hard disk). The phase 1, achieved in September 2002, was the installation of a Local RAID mass storage (1.5 TB) with a Dell Precision Workstation as Master (subnetwork router, DHCP server, software repository, ...).

Here are some picture taken during the Farm installation. The night was so long...

Activity on the farm can be monitored here.

Condor is used as batch manager on that system, as well as on main of the Linux machines in the institute. To get some help please have a look here here
